Project Overview

This project highlights our proven capability to supply industrial-grade, continuous metal cladding solutions for demanding mechanical piping networks. In our latest deployment, we successfully fulfilled a targeted order consisting of exactly 300 rolls of high-performance Aluminum Smooth Jacketing, specifically equipped with a Polysurlyn Moisture Barrier (PSMB).

To meet the precise material takeoff requirements of the client’s outdoor industrial infrastructure, this shipment was manufactured to exact dimensional specifications: 100 feet (length) × 3 feet (width) per roll, with a verified thickness of 0.40 mm (0.016 inches).

By supplying these specific, bulk-ready dimensions, we enabled the on-site mechanical contractors to seamlessly integrate the cladding into their complex thermal insulation projects with minimal material waste. Delivering these robust, weather-resistant outer layers in exact required quantities ensures our partners have the precise materials needed to secure critical energy and chemical pipelines against harsh environmental variables.

Product Details

  • Product Name: Pre-engineered Aluminum Smooth A3003 H14 Jacketing with Polysurlyn Moisture Barrier (PSMB)

  • Size: Roll Dimensions: 100 feet (length) × 3 feet (width) | Thickness: 0.40 mm (0.016 inches)

  • Model / MPN: ASMP-001

  • Certification: Fully compliant with ASTM B209 (Standard Specification for Aluminum and Aluminum-Alloy Sheet and Plate) and ASTM C1729 (Standard Specification for Aluminum Jacketing for Insulation).

  • Application: Engineered to serve as the definitive protective outer layer over thermal insulation materials—such as rock wool, glass wool, or cellular glass—on exterior pipeline systems. It acts as an impermeable shield against UV degradation, heavy rain, corrosive atmospheres, and mechanical impact. The addition of the internal Polysurlyn Moisture Barrier provides a critical defense mechanism, effectively preventing galvanic and pitting corrosion on the interior surface of the metal jacketing.

Why This Customer Chose Us

The procurement team for this project required materials that eliminated guesswork during installation while adhering strictly to Canadian engineering codes. Our ASMP-001 aluminum jacketing was selected because our sizing matrix (36-inch width and 0.016-inch gauge) is 100% consistent with local Canadian dimensional standards, ensuring an exact fit for standard pipe dimensions.

By strictly adhering to ASTM B209 and ASTM C1729, we gave the project’s mechanical engineers absolute confidence in the alloy’s tensile strength and the moisture barrier’s durability. We bridged the gap between premium global manufacturing and precise regional requirements, facilitating a frictionless procurement cycle.

Quality Control

To ensure long-term reliability in extreme outdoor industrial environments, our products strictly adhere to three core quality standards: ASTM B209, ASTM C1729, and ASTM C1371. Every batch of aluminum rolls must pass the following multi-dimensional, rigorous inspections before leaving our facility:

1. High-Performance Polysurlyn Moisture Barrier (PSMB) Inspection

  • Imported Premium Raw Materials: Our moisture retarder utilizes raw materials directly imported from DuPont (USA), ensuring impeccable durability and water resistance of the underlying polymer layer.

  • Specification and Visual Quality: In accordance with ASTM C1729, we utilize a Class A, 3-mil-thick Polysurlyn film. The film undergoes strict visual inspection to ensure it has no visual defect that will affect performance and is free of laminated separations, holes, rips, tears, scratches, dents, non-uniform edges, or creases.

  • Water Vapor Transmission Rate (WVTR): Because testing the WVTR of moisture retarders is not possible after they are applied to the aluminum jacketing, this testing is done on the moisture retarders before application. We ensure its core WVTR is strictly ≤ 0.1 g/100 in²/day.

  • Pinhole Detection: We strictly control the barrier’s density. Testing requires that no more than 5 pinholes are detected per 50 ft² area. This eliminates the risk of galvanic and crevice corrosion caused by moisture penetration.

2. Precise Dimensional and Thickness Tolerance Control (ASTM C1729)

We do not rely on exaggerated marketing claims; instead, we strictly control all dimensional deviations within the engineering tolerances specified by ASTM C1729, ensuring maximum efficiency and seamless overlapping during on-site installation:

  • Length and Width Tolerances: For aluminum jacketing sheets, tolerances shall be ± 1/8 in. in width and length.

  • Thickness Tolerances (Table 1): Based on the permissible thickness tolerances table, for this shipment with a nominal thickness of 0.016 inches (falling in the “over 0.010 through 0.016” range) and a width of 36 inches (falling in the “Up to 39.4 in. wide” category), the thickness tolerance is precisely controlled at ± 0.0010 inches. This highly consistent gauge guarantees the structural stability and mechanical damage resistance of the outer jacket.

3. Surface Emittance and Material Properties (ASTM C1371 & ASTM B209)

  • Emittance Performance: The surface emittance of our product is professionally tested in accordance with the ASTM C1371 standard. The emittance of this batch of Type I (bare surface) is guaranteed to be 0.1, which effectively optimizes the thermal performance of the piping system.

  • Alloy and Temper Verification: The base aluminum complies with the ASTM B209 standard, utilizing the 3003 alloy. It undergoes strict testing for the H14 (half hard) temper. This specific configuration provides the optimal physical characteristics—ensuring excellent dent resistance and wind load strength while remaining malleable enough for contractors to roll and form on-site.

Customer Usage

Upon arrival at the industrial facility, site contractors will deploy these aluminum rolls directly over exterior piping networks already wrapped in rock wool or glass wool thermal insulation. The installation crews will cut the 100-foot rolls to exact circumferences, wrapping the smooth aluminum tightly around the insulated pipes.

Crucially, the side with the Polysurlyn Moisture Barrier will face inward, coming into direct contact with the insulation. This prevents the metal jacketing from chemically reacting with any trapped moisture or alkaline components within the wool. Secured via stainless steel or aluminum banding, these metal jackets will ultimately form a continuous, unyielding armor—drastically extending the lifecycle of the underlying thermal systems by sealing out the elements and withstanding high-traffic physical impact.
