Aluminum Sheet with Kraft Paper Backing for Insulation Jacketing
Aluminum sheet with kraft paper is a composite insulation jacketing material consisting of an aluminum outer sheet laminated to a kraft paper inner layer. EcoIn supplies aluminum sheet with kraft paper in alloys 1060, 3003, and 3105, with thickness from 0.4 to 1.2 mm. According to Wikipedia’s kraft paper article, kraft paper provides good tensile strength and moisture resistance, making it a cost-effective alternative to polysurlyn film as a corrosion barrier for aluminum insulation jacketing.
Applying kraft paper to the interior surface of the aluminum sheet creates a barrier that helps prevent corrosion of the aluminum jacketing and the underlying metal pipe, vessel, or equipment. The kraft paper layer is also easier to handle during installation than bare aluminum, reducing scratching of the outer surface. While the moisture-resistance performance of aluminum sheet with kraft paper is not as high as polysurlyn-backed aluminum, the significantly lower cost makes it a popular choice for dry indoor applications and project budgets where polysurlyn is not required.
Applying craft paper to the interior surface can prevent corrosion of the jacketing and the underlying metal pipe, vessel, or equipment. The performance is not as excellent as polysurlyn film, but it’s much more affordable than polysurlyn.
